Software system and compatibility Software and system compatibility
| Overview | | | | | | We offer the following possibilities for displaying 3D data on HoloVizio: | | | The solution for integrating existing applications with HoloVizio is our OpenGL Wrapper which intercepts OpenGL calls coming from the application and tranfers them to the 3D display. The application does not have to be aware of the presence of the wrapper, the application's OpenGL window looks the same, but the 3d model is also displayed on HoloVizio. This solution is able to display the contents of the OpenGL render windows of your application, but in true 3D.
An alternative solution is to export the model to one of the formats supported by our model viewer applications, and display it on the HoloVizio in real-time. For design reviews or demonstration, this is the ideal solution.
For displaying other content (eg. pre-rendered images or animations rendered using 3DS Max), we provide a video player application. We also provide a 3DS max plug-in that you can use to render your scene from numerous viewpoints, and software that combines these images / videos taken from different viewpoints into a video stream that can be played on the display. This is an off-line process, which takes a few seconds per frame. After that finished, the resulting video stream can be played back on the displays in real-time.
| | | HoloVizio Software
| | | | | - 3DConverter – Create 3D images and videos from 2D image sequences - computer generated or camera images.
| | | | This software reads your image sequences, camera setup, and the geometry specification of the HoloVizio device to be used, and outputs an AVI file that can be played on the HoloVizio in real-time using HoloPlayer. To use this method, you need an image / video sequence that shows your object from at least 60 different directions (more views result in better 3D quality). |
| | | | | - HoloRender – Plugin for Autodesk 3ds max for easily generating rendered image sequences.
| | | | This plugin for 3ds max automates the process of creating the cameras around the object, and rendering the required images in one step. It also invokes 3DConverter with the required settings. | | | | | - HoloPlayer – Play 3D images and videos on HoloVizio devices.
| | | | This application plays the AVI files output by 3DConverter, and plays them on the HoloVizio. HoloPlayer for the small display model (HV128WLD) supports the use of up to 4 DVI outputs for playback. The playlist feature makes unattended demonstrations possible. HoloPlayer for the large display (HV720RC) enables the user to play back pre-rendered animations on the built-in computer cluster with speeds up to 100 FPS (using hardware compression, for short videos) or 25 FPS (using software compression, for longer videos). | | | | | - HoloVizio OpenGL Wrapper – Use your existing OpenGL-based applications on the HoloVizio without modification.
| | | | The HoloVizio OpenGL Wrapper creates a layer between your OpenGL-based application and the original OpenGL library. It seamlessly intercepts OpenGL calls made by the application, and (depending on the HoloVizio system used) renders and sends images to the display, or sends the OpenGL stream to the rendering cluster. | | | | |
HoloVizio Model Viewer applications
| | | - ModelViewer, DICOMViewer, MD5Viewer – View, inspect, animate your 3DS, DICOM, and MD5 models in real-time!
| | | | By using HoloVizio model viewers, you can be sure your HoloVizio device is pushed to the limit. Developed by Holografika’s software engineers, all aspects of the rendering process are carefully tuned for our 3D displays. Using configuration files, you can store lighting conditions, camera arrangement and more. You can also use various input devices to navigate around the models. These applications are OpenGL-based, and the Wrapper is used to display in 3D. | | | | | | 3rd party Model Viewer / Converter applications | | | | | - Mercury OpenInventor IvTuneViewer
| | | | The recommended viewer for viewing CAD models is IvTuneViewer from Mercury’s OpenInventor software package. This application is able to show very complex .IV models in real-time and is fully compatible with the OpenGL Wrapper. | | | | | | | | | These external model conversion tools are capable of transforming various model formats to the ones that are supported by HoloVizio tools in case direct export is not available. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Compatibility
| | | | | Supported opreating systems
| | | HoloVizio software components are tested and supported on the following operating systems:
| | | - Windows XP x64
- Suse Linux 9.3 64-bit
| | | Our software products have also been successfully used on the following platforms:
| | | - Windows XP
- RedHat Linux
- Suse Linux 10.0 64-bit
- Gentoo Linux
| | | Supported applications
| | | Direct display using the HoloVizio OpenGL Wrapper
| | | This OpenGL wrapper implements an ever increasing subset of the OpenGL 2.0 specification. At the moment, it supports applications based on the following common OpenGL-based visualization libraries: OpenInventor, Inventor, Coin3D, OpenSceneGraph, AVS/Express. For a detailed description, please email us to receive the HoloVizio OpenGL Wrapper Programmers Guide.
The wrapper has been successfully used with various medical, oil and gas exploration, modeling and simulation software and Nvidia OpenGL demos such as Dispersion, Eye, Metalpaint, Thinfilm.
In case you would like to use your own software with the OpenGL Wrapper, please send us a Windows or Linux binary package with sample data files (and license if needed), and our software team will analyze it, providing you information on compatibility and sending you back images / videos of your software running on the HoloVizio. | | | CAD / Modeling applications
| | | Using the export-and-display approach, you can view models exported from numerous CAD / Modeling applications. Below we have listed several software packages that we have tested with HoloVizio. Please note that this list is far from being exhaustive, as you can use virtually any CAD / modeling package that can export to either 3DS, OpenInventor .IV, or MD5 formats. And even if it does not, you can use one of the recommended model conversion utilities to convert them. For a detailed description on how these software can be used to export models for the HoloVizio and the model format involved, please email us to receive the Software Compatibility List document. In case you would like to see your own models on the HoloVizio, please send us sample models (3DS, IV, VRML, MD5 are preferred, but we can handle almost any format).
